Positive Behaviour for Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is now an integral part of our school culture, having been running for over six years.

Positive behaviour for learning (PBL)

Our PBL rules are well embedded within the school community:

  • be respectful
  • be responsible
  • be safe.

This program facilitates a behaviour reward system which is easy to understand, manage and most importantly for students rewarding when they display respectful, responsible and safe behaviour.

The implementation of PBL into the classrooms began during 2012. All classes devised their own sets of rules, which clearly reflects positive behaviour and maximises opportunities to learn.

Data collection continues to reflect a decline in negative behaviour, and allows us to continually monitor areas for focus and improvement. Such data has also afforded us the opportunity to reflect on the continued positive impact of PBL in our school.

Parkes Public also encourages positive individual behaviour through the rewarding of rockets. With goal setting success, resulting in regular PBL celebrations for their achievements eg mufti days, movie afternoons, craft afternoons, etc.

Student accountability

At Parkes Public, students are taught to be accountable for their own actions. Students receive referrals for poor behaviour and such students attend planning sessions to discuss more appropriate behaviour.
